The plans of the generals |

 |
|
French Plan |
Austrian Plan |
|
To make a defense of both main crossing points, Connewitz and
Dölitz, garrisoning the Dölitz manor and demolishing all the bridges
in the zone |
To attack both crossing points, preventing the French/Polish
concentration in any of the two main crossing points. To use the
bridging train if necessary |
|
|
The rough nature of the terrain in the proximity of the bridges, forced the Austrians to leave
behind the supporting artillery during their approaching to the bridges. On the contrary,
the French-Polish forces, moving always over open terrain, were able to concentrate the
reinforcements in the crossing points, making the most of their artillery. Additionally,
the assaulting infantry units were forced to use inefficient march column formations
against the bridges.
